ラポロアイヌネイションは、旧称を浦幌アイヌ協会といい、2020年７月にラポロアイヌネイションと名称を変更しました。ラポロとは浦幌の名の由来であるアイヌ語のオーラポロから取りました。なぜ、名称の変更をしたかというと、私たちの祖先はコタンという集団を作り、この集団が十勝川でサケ捕獲権を有していたことから、私たち子孫もこのサケ捕獲権を復活させることを目指す団体になろうと決断したからです。私たちもかつてのコタンのようにサケ捕獲権を持ち、自己決定権を持つ組織になっていくことができれば、という決意を込めて名称を変更しました。

The Raporo Ainu Nation, formerly known as the Urahoro Ainu Association, changed its name to the Raporo Ainu Nation in July 2020. The name “Raporo” is taken from the Ainu word auraporo, from which Urahoro derives its name. The reason for the name change is that our ancestors formed a group called Kotan, which had the right to catch salmon in the Tokachi River, and we decided to become an organization that aims to restore this right to catch salmon to our descendants. We changed our name to reflect our determination to become an organization that has the right to capture salmon and to be self-determining, just like the Kotan once were.
